There is nothing better than a stack of crunchy golden toasted sandwiches with that attractive griddled look filled with an unlimited choice of hot melty centers. You can choose from mozzarella cheese with pesto, or the sweet salty combination of roast ham and onion marmalade, even chocolate, which during testing filled the kitchen with such tantalising chocolatey aromas that everyone waited in a queue to eat them hot from the grid of the electric sandwich toaster.
We tested our toasties on several sandwich presses and the DeLonghi Argento cgh 800 Chrome grill electric sandwich press came out much the best. The machine makes two large sandwiches at a time. The lid has a central pivot which conveniently adjusts to the different thickness of each sandwich allowing it to cook evenly, leaving an attractive grid pattern across the surface of the toastie. Cooking times are suggested in the manufacturer's instructions, we found, however, that the medium setting seemed about the right temperature for me when toasting the sandwiches. The machine has a impressive non - stick grid which virtually self cleans. It also grills meats, fish, vegetables and kebabs and is heartily recommended for food on the go.
